Nature photography has been my hobby for over 20 years. I started with a manual Pentax K1000 SLR camera with a 500mm f8.0 lense. I learned early on that you need a long lense to capture images of animals, because you generally cannot get as close as you would like without them getting spooked. Of course in those early days film was the only means of recording your images. In 2004 I went 100% digital. I was a little skeptical at first, but have since learned to appreciate the great expanse of opportunities it brings. After a couple attempts to swallow the shad, the pelican had to release it. It’s girth was just too much for the pelican’s throat to expand. Thanks for the comment.

Amazing capture! That looks like a big fish (you know what kind and can you see it thrashing about inside the pouch?) caught and staring down its captor's throat here! So could the pelican really manage to win the battle and gulp that whole thing down entirely okay?? Does the fish put up a good fight, if eaten, does the unlucky prey get swallowed wriggling all the way as well?!
