After a couple attempts to swallow the shad, the pelican had to release it. It’s girth was just too much for the pelican’s throat to expand. Thanks for the comment.

Amazing capture! That looks like a big fish (you know what kind and can you see it thrashing about inside the pouch?) caught and staring down its captor's throat here! So could the pelican really manage to win the battle and gulp that whole thing down entirely okay?? Does the fish put up a good fight, if eaten, does the unlucky prey get swallowed wriggling all the way as well?!
